Have you ever wondered what it is to work in the fashion industry?  If you’re a high school student, you no longer have to wait until college to find out!  Get an up-close view of the fashion industry by participating in the Sew Beautiful program.  Meet and work with some of Seattle’s industry experts and get a glimpse of the fashion industry.


You will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover new and exciting opportunities in fashion
  • Meet Seattle fashion industry related experts and business owners
  • Learn drawing from fashion inspiration
  • Basic Sewing 101

To participate in Sew Beautiful program, you are a forward thinker and creative about fashion.  You must be enrolled in high school, 9-10-11-12 grade.

Sew Beautiful is a youth empowerment program for young women of color, dedicated to the exploration of fashion and pop culture media careers.

The mission of Sew Beautiful is to promote the fashion arts by encouraging entrepreneurship, education and mentorship.  Our goal is to help raise awareness, and offer support through activities, mentorship and discussion.  Sew Beautiful seeks to build self-esteem of young women, broaden their creative minds and help empower their true beauty within.

Sew Beautiful Fashion Lab 2010

On Aug. 18th 2010, Sew Beautiful kicked-off its program with a Fashion Lab 1-Day Summer Camp at the Umoja Fest P.E.A.C.E. Center.  Young women between the ages of 14-18 were able to get an up-close view of the fashion industry.  Participants had the opportunity to discover new and exciting opportunities in the fashion, learn drawing from fashion inspiration, use their creative minds by making their very own camp t-shirt design and tour Nordstrom’s corporate office to learn about Management and Design.  Oh yeah, did I mention meet new friends and have lots of fun!!
